Attorney-at-Law

Derriann P. Charles, our Principal Attorney, was born in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. She is admitted to practice in Trinidad and Tobago and St. Christopher (St. Kitts) and Nevis. Practice areas include Family law, Divorce, Intellectual property, corporate and commercial law, construction, hotel and real estate law, civil litigation, probate, and real property matters. C&A also does a lot of work in apostilling documents for foreign use and registering foreign judgments.

Ms. Charles attended the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus initially and thereafter the Cavehill Campus, graduating therefrom with a Bachelor of Laws Degree (Hons). She then proceeded to the Hugh Wooding Law School, Trinidad, where she completed and acquired her Legal Education Certificate.

Later, she read for a Master’s of Law in International Business Law (with Distinction) at the Robert Kennedy College in collaboration with the University of Cumbria. Ms. Charles is also the holder of a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, in Psychology with a minor in Gender and Development studies (Hons). She also specialises in corporate governance, compliance and corporate secretarial matters, having held and continuing to hold the position of Corporate Secretary for many companies.

Ms. Charles is also a Notary Public within the Federation of St. Christopher (St. Kitts) and Nevis. In addition to the above diverse areas of practice, she has an advanced understanding of the Spanish language.

Legal Consultant

With the view to ensuring that the Firm remains competitive, with high levels of efficiency and client case management, the Firm has onboarded the services of Consultant, Ms. Christiane S. Prowell. Ms. Prowell provides legal support services to the Firm, by effectively managing the Firm's strategy, in both litigation and non contentious matters.

Ms. Prowell has extensive experience practicing at both the first instance and appellate levels of the court system and is often commended for routinely employing innovative and non-conventional strategies, to advance the cause of her clients. Ms. Prowell's analytical skills and knack for employing logical deductive reasoning techniques often renders the preparation of quality and focussed pleadings, adequacy and thoroughness of evidence and delivery of pointed advice to clients. Amidst the number of notable dimensions of Ms. Prowell is that, in addition to being an efficient result oriented Attorney, Ms. Prowell is a licensed private pilot.

IT Consultant

The firm prides itself on offering its clients and potential new clients alike, technological means of communicating with both offices. These range from branded collaborative client portals for the secured exchange of documents and information, online legal billing and payment solutions, automated appointment scheduling which allows clients to choose meeting times around the firm’s calendar, electronic workflow and case management and automated client intake and onboarding. Electronic access to the firm and matters have allowed clients to receive real time updates and remain in contact during downtimes, such as those occasioned by COVID-19. Therefore, a central member of the firm’s team, is its IT Consultant, Mr. Enoete Inanga, through his firm Wifi Doctors. Wifi Doctors is a technology solutions company that provides a myriad of technology solutions for corporate clients such as our firm, with a penchant for wireless solutions that simply makes our clients happy, based on the notion "Happy Wifi, Happy Life". Senior Paralegal [Trinidad and Tobago]

Our Senior Paralegal [Trinidad and Tobago office], Ms. Akilah Bowen, provides support in the delivery of quality legal services to clients. The Firm has seen a tremendous improvement in the workflow and management of matters since the onboarding of Ms. Bowen. Ms. Bowen has extensive experience and substantial knowledge in the field of law. Clients' Services Manager

Annette Y. Charles, our Clients’ Services Manager, receives great commendation from the clients about her efficiency in managing their affairs. Ms. Charles provides administrative assistance to the Attorneys and Consultant of the Firm and coordinates appointments and (Zoom) meetings between interested parties of and to the Firm. Ms. Charles also manages the schedules of all the stakeholders in the Firm, including the dates for hearings, trials and court deadlines for filing of relevant documents. The exchange of information through the Firm’s secure client portal and electronic data management of legal files are also facilitated through Ms. Charles, who prides herself on ensuring that the client has an optimum experience with the Firm. Ms. Charles’ case management skills and ability to close out matters is particularly noteworthy. She is often referred to by the Attorneys and Consultant as a shrewd overseer, who ensures that all administrative tasks are undertaken in a timely manner.

Legal Assistant
[St. Kitts and Nevis office]

The Firm’s Legal Assistant is very critical to the efficient running of the St. Kitts and Nevis office. She is often commended for conducting herself in a highly professional manner, whilst undertaking all the clerical and support services to ensure the Attorneys-at-Law look good. She assists the Attorneys, by engaging in such tasks as conducting legal research, drafting documents, sending electronic mails, managing the Attorneys’ calendars, preparing [electronic] trial bundles and other administrative tasks. The Legal Assistant’s support of the Attorneys is invaluable and allows for the Attorneys to undertake their substantive jobs with ease and assurance that the administrative tasks are being properly handled. Such tasks include but are not limited to the scanning of documents, sending Attendance notes, issuing reminders of upcoming court dates or court deadlines, calling the court for updates and/or court dates, calling opposing Counsel and/or parties, scheduling Zoom calls and other all parties conferences.

Legal Intern/Attorney-In-Waiting

The Firm takes great pride in creating an environment in which Interns and/or Attorneys-In-Waiting can learn whilst on the job. It allows persons who are studying Law or who have just completed their studies to get some real life experience in the drafting and preparation of documents, taking instructions from clients, attending court [whether virtual or in person] and applying the theoretical knowledge they have acquired, to the real world. Students and/or Attorneys-In-Waiting get the added privilege of attending court alongside the Firm’s Attorneys-at-Law and/or attending consultations with the Attorneys or very experienced Paralegals.

Executive Administrative Assistant [Corporate/Legal]

Zillda Martineau, Executive Administrative Assistant [Corporate/Legal], was born and raised in Tobago. Ms. Martineau provides solid and leading-edge administrative support to the team. She is the brainchild of the Firm’s systems for improved efficiency and productivity. Ms. Martineau has extensive training in Project Management and IT, both of which skills she uses to manage and manipulate the fast paced, demanding environment of the Firm. This versatility extends to overseeing the Firm’s calendar and that of several of the Firm’s corporate clients.

Ms. Martineau’s continuous quest for knowledge, self-improvement and professional development brings great delight to the Firm, which continues to be a direct beneficiary of her learning, that manifests itself in Ms. Martineau’s ideas and recommendations, all aimed at fostering improved workflow and efficiency.
